BP’s development, construction, homebuilding and marketing professionals bring decades of experience to every job. Collectively they have overseen projects that consist of large-scale masterplanned communities, hospital expansions, stadium construction, mixed-use urban infill projects, university housing and commercial ventures, restaurant and entertainment venues, hotel and historic structure renovations, expansive streetscape re-design and infrastructure installations, and multi-million-dollar luxury homes.

BARRY PAYNE | PRESIDENT

Barry Payne has been actively involved in real estate development and construction his entire career, spanning more than three decades. After Graduating from UTC, he joined his father’s construction company which took him all over the United States overseeing commercial construction projects for Pilot Flying J Travel Centers. Once he came off the road, Mr. Payne began building homes and developing residential neighborhoods such as Ooltewah’s Hidden Lakes community. In 2003, Mr. Payne was tapped by The Lupton Company to help design, develop, and construct Cambridge Square, a 130-acre mixed-use development located adjacent to the famed Honors Golf Course. Mr. Payne has spearheaded development activity since the initial groundbreaking in 2012, delivering 17 Class-A commercial buildings in 10 years. Development of Cambridge Square’s residential district infrastructure began in 2016, and home construction began in late 2017. Cambridge Homes adhere to strict architectural guidelines that mirror some of Chattanooga’s most historic neighborhoods. In addition to Cambridge Square, Mr. Payne was engaged as part of the team to oversee downtown Chattanooga’s Chestnut Street re-districting which included a total streetscape renovation along with re-purposing several iconic buildings and the complete remodel of the Blue Cross Tower which is now a Westin Hotel. Mr. Payne is a licensed real estate agent in the State of Tennessee, and a long-standing member of the Hamilton County Planning Commission.

JEFF GARNER | PRESIDENT COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION

Mr. Garner began his career in construction in 1995 when he joined Chattanooga’s C & I Specialty Company where he started as a project manager and eventually assumed a vice president role. While with C & I, Mr. Garner was involved in the construction of Finley Stadium, Memorial Hospital facilities, the St. Paul’s Church renovation, Templeton Library at Sewanee, and more than 25 schools throughout Hamilton County and North Georgia. Mr. Garner left C & I in 2006 when he joined the Hudson Companies as Vice President of Operations, overseeing construction and property management activity for the company’s numerous commercial and residential properties. Jeff’s primary project at Hudson consisted of the construction and operational management of The Terrace at Frasier. Mr. Garner joined BP Construction in 2010 as Vice President of Construction and has overseen all elements of the company’s commercial building construction. Mr. Garner received his B.A. in History from Birmingham Southern College

JIM CHENEY | VICE PRESIDENT OF MARKETING AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Mr. Cheney has more than 20 years of experience in residential and commercial real estate development. As VP of Marketing and Communications, Mr. Cheney oversees leasing, marketing and public relations activity for BP Construction. For the past six years, he has managed all leasing and communications activity for the Cambridge Square development, securing local tenants and brands from throughout the Greater Chattanooga area. In addition to Mr. Cheney's Chattanooga activity, he was also responsible for two boutique multifamily projects in downtown Nashville: The Chelsea and The James. Cheney served as the in-house VP of Communications for Southern Land Company for seven years, playing a communications and marketing role for the launch of communities such as Westhaven, Dwell at McEwen, Elliston 23 and several mixed-use projects in Dallas. Cheney began his career with Nashville-based Seigenthaler Public Relations (SPR) where he served as a VP of Client Service. Notable projects at SPR included the launch of Nashville's Gulch development, the HCA spin-off of Tri-Star and LifePoint Hospital Systems, the agency expansion of Shirley Zeitlin Realtors, Account Supervision of the Nashville International Airport expansion, Account Supervision of Waller Lansden Dortch and Davis, and community/municipal engagement for the Music Row RoundAbout's public art commission, Musica. Mr. Cheney received his B.A. from Millsaps College.
